It begins
My first carp of 2012. Dennis & I fished in Central Park this evening. I arrived at the "rock" at 72nd street
about 7:00pm. it was cool and there was a slight wind on the lake surface. A wind, even a slight one is not
good for clooping carp. It causes an unusual drift which turns carp off. So Dennis was skunked. But we will be back at it by next week, I hope.

Prrospect Park
Looking north at the Peninsula from the south side of the lake in Prospect Park
I caught a couple of small large mouth bass with my 2 wt rod and a marabou bass fly.
A second pickerel took the fly shortly after I caught this fish.
I ended the day with a nice blue gill.
I'm back !
I had foot surgery at the end of March, so I've been off my feet for the past few weeks
But the doctor has removed my sutures and I'm free to wear real shoes on my feet.
I was anxious to get out and fish again. I had purchased some epoxy flies and was ready to go
At this time fish are active near the boat house and the Lullwater.
So I strung my 11 foot 2 wt fly rod and began to try the new flies. Within a few minutes
I had a fish on. It felt like a crappie, maybe a small bass as I got a glimpse I realized it was
neither. Long, slender and green, that's a PICKEREL ! My first pickerel in Brooklyn.
It fought deep at the bottom of the lake. Pulling, darting, slowly I raised the fish to the surface.
Just about a foot of water covered him. I realized I had to be careful. This is a fish with
very shape teeth and I was fishing with a 3 pound tippet. Oh I wish I had a net but I
do not have one. Then what I feared happened, the pickerel bit the light tippet and was
free again to rip and slash through the water like a small Alfa class attack submarine.
I did manage a few fish with the epoxy fly but if I intend to land a pickerel, I better use
a thicker tippet, at least 10 pound test.
I saw this flower on the Peninsula in Prospect Park.
