Prospect Park , the very last icicle
I took a walk in the park this afternoon. We were forecasted to have a few inches of snow
here. A Nor'easter storm was to come up the east coast but instead we got rain.
Hanging from a tree in the park was this lone long icicle. There is no other sign of the cold
weather we experienced this past winter.
I wonder what source of melting ice caused this to form and hang from this tree.
Two days ago crappie and bluegills were being caught here, near the boat house.
In the early spring, fish hold in here in what is called "The Lullwater".

Peux Fulgor Semi automatic fly reel
Before I ruptured my quadriceps muscle, I fished the Peux Fulgor semi automatic fly reel
exclusively last season. I was able to try the reel against panfish and a few really big carp!
I like the fact that the reel makes no sound as a fish pulls line from the spool.
It is totally silent, not a sound can be heard.
Here is a photo of the back of the reel.
This is a picture of the reel without it's spool.
A close up of the reel and spool together.
A different photo of the reel without a spool of fly line.
A peek at the gears that allow the Fulgor to do what it does so well.
Note that it does not have a spring like the Vivarelli or the ATP 37.
I have fished this reel very hard and the only bad experience I have had is that the screw that holds
the drag control knob sometimes loosens. A small Phillips screw driver will tighten the screw and the
reel works flawlessly again.
This screw became loose only three times between March 2013 and September 2013
During the introductory period, you could purchase the reel with an extra spool for a special price.
I was very happy to get this deal.
The spool can be removed by pulling the spool by it's edges away from the reel body.
The Fulgor is mounted on my BVK 4 piece, 9 foot, 6 weight fly rod which I acquired
this past winter
A close up view of the gears that mesh very smoothly on this reel. I apologize but this was
the first day with warmer weather and I didn't realize the reel needed cleaning for these close
up photo.
The drag can be adjusted by turning this knob, right or left to increase or decrease the drag.
I used the RIO Trout LT fly line. It seems to be ideal for single hand Spey casting technique
as well as roll casting.
A look inside the spool
The Fulgor retrieves line fast but not too fast like the ATP 37. There is no birds nest due to
the spool rotating so fast that line becomes tangle. It does everything that the Vivarelli Goldstar
does. It is superior to the Goldstar in that the drag can be adjusted while fishing. No tool is
required to activate the brake simply turn the knob in the center of the spool.
FULGOR 03 WF 8 Max DT 7 82 mm 148 g .. warranty 3 years
There are three models numbered: 01, 02, 03. Fulgor 03 is the reel I purchased.
All the parts are carefully crafted on high-precision machines from aluminum bar and anodized for performance and durability. Six stainless steel ball bearings ensure reliability, accuracy and smooth
retrieves—superior to any other multiplier reel in the market.
Permanent anti-reverse, a robust multi-disc drag system coupled with the extremely fast retrieve ratio and the compact easily-switched spools are the characteristics of the PEUX AR models that allow a
simple but effective solution ideal for most saltwater and freshwater applications..
The PEUX drag system, a series of discs, provides instant line engagement for improved feel—plus quick adjustments during the fight. After years of research PEUX has a formula that allows materials to
achieve maximum performance in any weather for the most dependable
drag, strong and smooth.
The mid-arbor Fulgor fly reel by Peux is highly regarded in Europe as the best semi automatic fly reel
because it reaches perfection. The lever in the front brings an amazing retrieval speed to pick up the slack line
( one squeeze brings back more than 2 meters of line ), while as an option it is possible to still have a conventional handle located on the spool allowing you to play a fish as usual. But it's not only this that makes
the reel so special, there is the precision of its mechanism with a sound that inspires quality and a smooth and
progressive Teflon drag system. The Fulgor fly reel's design is purely functional, turned in the highest grade of
aluminum making it light, scratch and shock resistant. This combination of elements makes for a brilliant reel and trying it is like discovering for the very first time the drive of a luxury car. The Fulgor can be ordered with the option of a reel handle. Made in Switzerland.
