Freeport

This pond is located in Freeport.  I was only able to fish the west side of Smith Pond

The east side is heavily wooded which prevented me from fishing that side of the pond.

I did see evidence of spawning.  There were dozens of bass beds all along the edge of the pond.

At the south end of the pond I did see a large bass swim by and disappear into the depths.
So the area is not dead but I caught nothing.  I used a number of different flies with not even a hit.

I never heard of the Carlis River until this year but it feeds a number of ponds and lakes
that I have already fished.

It has trout, panfish and carp.  It appears to be wadeable.

The river is slow moving and almost crystal clear.

Paterson

Finally got to see the Great Falls of the Passaic River.  I did not go down and fish the area
beneath the falls but it looks like a fishy place.  Three people  were fishing that area when I
took this photo.

I plan to come back and fish this area in July when it gets hot.  I hope to fish more on the Bronx river
and other fisheries like it.

I arrived in late afternoon and could not see any fish but pools like the one in the picture
reportedly hold lots of fish; even trout.

Herrick

Mulberries are in full effect at this tine of the year.  This tree's branches hang over Herrick Park pond,
near East Williston.  Mulberries are not only good to eat but carp LOVE them.  However,
there is no evidence that there are carp here.

A buddy told me of this small pond.  It has crappie and at least one small large mouth bass.

This is a catch and release pond only.  The shore line is littered with trash and "Big Gulp"
cups.  You can't see it in the pictures I took.

I started by fishing a #8 Green Weenie but these little ones couldn't hold on and would fall off
the hook as I reeled them in.  So I switched to the #10.  I caught almost a dozen of these
immature crappies using a #10 Green Weenie fly.  I tried a number of streamers, nymphs and
poppers. Nothing worked except the Green Weenie.

I caught this thumb size bass near a dock that over looks the pond.  I was surprised that
I caught nothing larger than what you see here.

Watchung

Best Lake is in Watchung, New Jersey.  It is listed as a carp lake; so I took a trip to find out.

What I found was brown water and no evidence of carp.  There may be carp but I didn't see
anything but a rusted can which at some time in the past did hold corn.

The good news is that they are dredging a nearby lake and this lake will be gifted with those
fish soon.  I really like my TVK fly rod it is fast.  I'm using the  Peux Fulgor semi automatic
fly reel.  I expect to receive a new semi auto reel from Spain any day and I hope to finally get
the JMC Ozone next month.

There are bass and bluegills and fishing was slow during my visit.  It was a long walk from the
 Plainfield train station.  Five kilometers to and five back for a total of 10km!  My knee held up.

Wantagh II

 A few days ago I fished at Mill pond in Wantagh, New York.  I returned to Wantagh
to fish the other lakes near the Long Island Rail Road train station.

During this visit I fished the upper and lower Twin Lakes of Wantagh,

 These lakes appear to be wadeable the bottom of the lakes are firm with sand and stone.
