Pictorial of spring in NYC 2012

This spring, because of the warm winter, more
early blooms are here, near the lake.

Number 14 Bead Head Wooly bugger, about an inch
long.

Due to a number of 70F days, here in New York
City, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom

This early showing will cause a problem for the
annual Brooklyn's Cherry Blossom Festival which
normally occurs in April.

By the time the festival is held these flowers
will be long gone!

A nice bass on a 70F afternoon.

Blue gill taken on the same wooly bugger as the
bass. This is a mature fish more than 5 years
old ; judging by the size.

Warm winter fishing

Koi

I went to the Meer to fish. The weather was
warm even though spring is several weeks
away.

It has been so warm that fishing is good. While
I walked the perimeter,I noticed the two Koi.
They swam in the way that Koi do.

Notice how they swim together and seem to follow
an erratic pattern.

I managed a few accurate casts to them but
because they were not feeding, they ignored
my offerings.

I did manage to hook about a dozen small BGs
and a very nice golden shiner to end the evening.

Draining the lake

What you are looking at is the draining of the lake
The Park's department is restoring this part
of the lake to go along with the new "Lakeside"
area.

I watched as park personnel set up the
temporary dam & pumped water from this area.

This is a view of the "island" that is being restored

The temporary dam is in place.

The daffodils are already blooming during this unusual
winter in New York City.
